A Special SYC Winter Event and Fund-Raiser
CRUISING THE GREAT LOOP
SAUGATUCK WOMEN'S CLUB
Hors d'Ouevres/Wine - 6:30 pm
Program Begins - 8 pm

The Great Loop is the continuous waterway that encompasses the eastern portion of North America – including the Atlantic and Gulf Intracoastal Waterways, the Great Lakes, the Canadian Heritage Canals, and the inland rivers of America's heartland. It is also known as the Great Circle Route and is considered one of the safest long distance cruising routes in the world. To travel all -- or a portion of the Great Loop -- any of its magnificent side trips -- is an adventure of a lifetime.

Nancy and Berkley Duck took this adventure with their Grand Banks 46 and wrote a book about the experience. They will be joining us for a presentation of their experiences on the Great Loop.

About Nancy & Berkley Duck:
Nancy and Berkley Duck grew up in Indianapolis. Nancy graduated from Smith College and Berkley from Brown University and Harvard Law School. They returned to Indianapolis where Nancy was active in various community activities and Berkley practiced law with the firm of Ice Miller, where he served as one of its managing partners prior to his retirement in 2001. They have two children and two grandchildren.

The Ducks have been boating all their lives. They raced Snipe and Thistle class sailboats on Geist Reservoir near Indianapolis and sailed in regional and national regattas before switching to cruising. Over a period of about 25 years, they owned a series of sail and power boats that they kept at Eldean Shipyard, cruising Lake Michigan and the North Channel.

Upon Berkley’s retirement, they embarked on the “Great Circle” tour onboard Wings, their Grand Banks 46, and spent a year traveling from Holland, Michigan to Key West and back on a circumnavigation of the eastern United States.

They now own a home in Leland, Michigan and do their boating on a Back Cove 29, on which they can make short hops to their favorite cruising grounds on northern Lake Michigan.

Friday Nights, all Summer Long
BYO Barbeque and Pot Luck

Friday night get-togethers started on a casual basis last summer and
turned out to be very popular. These Friday night parties are casual
and minimally organized. All members are welcome to bring their own
libations and food to cook and/or share with others. The grill is always
there and ready to light up. Its a great way to get to know your fellow
members and to take advantage of the great location on the waterfront.
