No Tears Regatta - Wednesday, July 9, 2008

Spring Lake Yacht Club hosted West Michigan Youth Sailing Association’s No Tears Regatta, an Opti Green Fleet regatta for beginning racers. Saugatuck brought 10 sailors who fought through the confusion and chaos of 42 total boats in the strongest wind any of them have ever sailed in. Alex Watts led for Saugatuck finishing in 11th place, followed by Michael Keller in 12th. Will Dykema received special honor as the youngest skipper to sail every race at the regatta at age 8. The race was mass chaos, including both Logan and Keaton Goshorn capsizing while attempting to return to shore for the day. But in the end, everyone seemed to have a good time and increase their enthusiasm about sailing and more specifically racing.
